Brazilian beauty contestant organizers thought they would have to find a 'new' Martha Rocha. They thought it was imperative for Miss Brazil to have blue/green eyes. Maybe that's why Maria José was chosen as Miss Brazil 1956... because of her blue eyes. But it takes more than a pair of beautiful blue eyes to be elected Miss Universe.
